Eliminating Hepatitis C in Rural Communities
Rural areas of New York State (NYS) see some of the highest rates of hepatitis C in the State. The most common risk for hepatitis C is injection drug use. The opioid epidemic has contributed to the rise in hepatitis C nationally and in NYS. This session will provide an overview of the trends in hepatitis C case rates in rural areas of NYS, review services currently available for hepatitis C prevention, testing and treatment and identify collaborations between rural health partners to advance NYS’s efforts to eliminate hepatitis C as a public health problem by 2030.
