Gillibrand Announces Over $130 Million In Federal Funding

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand secured over $130 million in federal funding to help assist and revitalize New York’s health care system. The announcement was made during a video press conference.

  •  $42.3 million in federal funding specifically for maternal health. This funding will be used to support maternal health care services and address the maternal mortality and postpartum depression crisis in the nation
  • $50 million in federal funding to bolster the community health care workforce. This funding will be used to support public health jobs and infrastructure in New York and across the country.
  • $9.2 million in federal funding for Academic Centers for Public Health Preparedness. This funding will support academic institutions that have Centers for Public Health Preparedness.
  • $47 million in federal funding for Area Health Education Centers (AHEC). This funding will support AHECs across the country, including the 9 in New York State.
  • $33 million in federal funding for Lyme and tick-borne diseases. This funding will support research, surveillance, and prevention efforts for these diseases.

  1. Bronx Westchester AHEC in the Bronx
  2. Brooklyn-Queens-Long Island AHEC in Brooklyn
  3. Manhattan-Staten Island AHEC in New York City
  4. Central New York AHEC in Cortland
  5. Catskill Hudson AHEC in Highland
  6. Hudson Mohawk AHEC in Latham
  7. Northern AHEC in Canton
  8. Western New York Rural AHEC in Warsaw
  9. Erie Niagara AHEC in Buffalo

“New York is currently facing a significant health care worker shortage and strain on our public health infrastructure that is burdening workers and patients alike. The $130 million I fought for will play a fundamental role in easing this burden and building the capacity of our health care workforce across the state”, Senator Gillibrand said.
