Nate Barott

Nate Barott is a fourth-year medical student at the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University. Following his clinical training experiences in Glens Falls, Barott chose to participate in the Targeted Rural Health Education (TRHE) program, which focuses on teaching student doctors the importance of rural newspapers to share health information with their community. Samantha Ballas

Samantha Ballas, of Syracuse, is a fourth-year medical student at SUNY Upstate Medical University in the Rural Medical Scholars Program. She is a NYSARH Research and Policy Fellow in the 2025 cohort. She is interested in neurology, rural medicine, health equity and legislative advocacy.

Matthew Infarinato

Matthew Infarinato is a fourth-year medical student at SUNY Upstate Norton College of Medicine. He is originally from Oneida, NY, and he attended SUNY University at Buffalo where he pursued his BS in Mechanical Engineering before attending medical school. While performing his clinical rotations in Binghamton, NY, Infarinato also chose to participate in the Targeted Rural Health Education program. This program focuses on teaching student doctors how to convey pertinent medical topics to rural communities. Iden Li is a fourth-year undergraduate student at the State University of New York at Binghamton studying Global Public Health and Africana Studies. Upon switching his field of study to public health, Iden discovered a greater affinity and passion for the discipline as he continued with his coursework. As a summer intern for NYSARH, Iden explored the impacts of environmental health in the context of built environments and physical activity. With this experience, Iden has gained a greater understanding of the issue of rural health and is interested in pursuing future graduate-level study within the field of public health.
