Person-Centered Trauma-Informed Approaches with Older Adults

This one-hour workshop introduces participants to person-centered trauma-informed (PCTI) principles within the context of working with older adults. Aging individuals may carry complex life histories, including experiences of trauma that impact their engagement with care and support. Through a person-centered lens, this session will explore how to recognize trauma responses, foster emotional safety, and build trusting, respectful relationships. Practical strategies will be discussed to help professionals create supportive environments that honor the dignity and resilience of older adults. Learning Objectives By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

1. Define trauma-informed care and explain its relevance in working with older adult populations.

2. Identify key elements of a person-centered trauma-informed approach that promotes safety, empowerment, and trust.

3. Apply at least two practical strategies to support older adults with trauma histories in a respectful and responsive way.
