This one-hour webinar will feature a lecture-style discussion on the identification of potential warning signs of cognitive impairment within the rural-dwelling elderly population. Constructs such as ageism, cultural biases, and geography and their influence on perception and treatment of older adults will be explored. Age-related changes will be discerned from potential pathophysiological changes in cognition and behavior. Warning signs of potential cognitive impairment will be examined within a rural context of care. Resources for caregiver assistance will be provided.
Learning Objectives:
- Examine how ageism, cultural biases, and geography may influence common
misconceptions about aging. - Distinguish age-related body, brain, and functional changes from signs of potential disease.
- Identify evidence-informed wellness activities that can be used as part of a comprehensive wellness plan to promote healthy aging.
