The Conference Planning Committee is in the process of identifying speakers and finalizing the schedule for this year’s virtual conference. However, we are excited to share with you the conference themes for this year, which were developed based on input from our members:
- Telehealth: Trial by fire
“New York State on Pause” resulted in a rapid and widespread adoption of telehealth applications in both rural and urban communities. Submissions in the telehealth theme may relate to specific use cases, the process of implementation, rural telecom readiness for telehealth (availability of broadband), or other related topics.
- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion as Determinants of Health
The national conversation on racial inequality, including the disproportionate impact of COVID on peoples of color, has led to a renewed focus on the structural and social determinants of health, and is pushing the agenda further to consider the “moral determinants of health”. Submissions within this theme may relate to social, structural, or moral determinants of health, or to rural health disparities.
- Sustainability of Rural Service Systems
The COVID pandemic has highlighted some structural fragilities of rural health systems. Changing funding models and uncertain state budgets have challenged sustainability in rural systems, including Rural Health Networks, Federally Qualified Health Centers and others. Submissions within this theme may comprise structural adaptation, creative use of funding models, or other topics of relevance to rural health systems and their sustainability in the New Rural.
- Rural Resilience and Innovation: Learning from COVID Responses
The pandemic has challenged every aspect of our rural health landscape. Rural New York, drawing from its strengths and resourcefulness, has responded. This theme will allow participants to share their knowledge about our “now normal”: success stories, lessons learned, best practice changes and innovative solutions.
